Top 10 - Cameron Diaz

Top 10 - Cameron Diaz

The Mask

The Mask (1994)

Cameron leapt into the limelight in 1994 with her role as the blonde sex siren Tina Carlyle in The Mask. Pairing her with the irrepressible Jim Carrey, who plays Jackel and Hyde character Stanley Ipkiss, it launched her career, highlighting her natural charisma and comedy timing. Not bad for a former model.

My Best friend's Wedding

My Best friend's Wedding (1997)

One of Diaz’s late 90s rom-coms that once again highlights her natural charm. At college Julianne Potter (Julia Roberts) made a pact with her best friend Michael (Dermot Mulroney) that if neither were married in ten years time they would marry each other, but now he's about to marry pretty student Kimberly Wallace (Diaz) just as Julianne realises she's in love with him. It's a classic rom-com that ticks all the boxes.

A Life Less Ordinary

A Life Less Ordinary (1997)

A romantic comedy with a certain amount of bite. You might be surprised to see Cameron Diaz play Ewan McGregor's love interest, but it's one of those instances where opposites really do attract. In this Danny Boyle directed film McGregor plays a hapless criminal who takes his boss' daughter hostage after being fired from his cleaning job. Add to the mix a couple of gun toting angels intent on making this unlikely romance work and you've got yourself a far from average rom-com.

There's Something About Mary

There's Something About Mary (1998)

Cameron’s new take on the quiff sums up the impact this iconic comedy had on Diaz’s career. This outrageous Farrelly brothers comedy was the talk of the town when it came out in the late 90s. It tells the story of Ted who realises he's still in love with his highschool crush Mary and goes on a mission to track her down. Queue laugh-out-loud comedy gold.

Very Bad Things

Very Bad Things (1998)

Cameron stars as the bridezilla fiancé in this black comedy about a group of guys at a bachelor party in Las Vegas. After partying with drugs, drink and strippers the weekend ends up with murder and the ultimate test of friendship. It's Cameron as you've never seen her before.

Being John Malkovich

Being John Malkovich (1999)

The usually glamorous Cameron was unrecognisable for her role in Being John Malkovich, as well as showing her desire to try something a little different. Spike Jonze’s off the wall take on Charlie Kauffman’s script, in which a puppeteer discovers a secret door that leads literally into the head of actor John Malkovich, earned Diaz a BAFTA nominationed for her performance as the pet-obsessed, frizzy haired Lotte Schwartz.

Any Given Sunday

Any Given Sunday (1999)

Playing alongside the big hitters, not only does Any Given Sunday find Cameron holding court in a male dominated world of business and football, but also working alongside seven times Oscar nominated actor Al Pacino.

Charlie's Angels

Charlie's Angels (2000)

Cameron was a perfect Angel choice to bring this hit 70s TV show into the 21st century. Along with Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu, the three modern day femme fatales kicked the bad guy's ass with impressive, albeit corny, MATRIX-style fight sequences, car chases, and stunts.

Shrek

Shrek (2001)

In this animated adventure, Cameron supplies the voice of Fiona, who's not your average fairytale princess. Beautiful by day, ogre by night she struggles with her true identity, that is until her unassuming prince charming Shrek rescues her from the dragon and they live happily ever after... well, sort of.

Gangs of New York

Gangs Of New York (2002)

Cameron beat the likes of Nicole Kidman, Kate Winslet and Winona Ryder to win the part of Jenny Everdeane in Martin Scorsese's crime drama, sending the message that's she's not just about sex appeal and getting laughs. And deservedly so.
