Kilmer and Xzibit for Bad Lieutenant

Val Kilmer and rap star Xzibit have accepted roles in the forthcoming remake of Bad Lieutenant.

Nicholas Cage is to play the corrupt cop in Werner Herzog's update of the Abel Ferrara cult classic.

In Ferrara's 1992 movie, Harvey Keitel played the cop whose existence revolved around hard drug use, deviant sex and bribery while investigating the rape of a nun.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Herzog is reportedly keen to retain the tone of the original, which shocked audiences at the time.

Top Gun star Kilmer has signed up to play Cage's partner, while Xzibit will exercise his acting chops as a villain.

Other names already on board for the remake include Deadwood star Brad Dourif, Fairuza Balk, Jennifer Coolidge, Vondie Curtis Hall, Shea Wigham and Katie Chonacas.

Elsewhere, it was recently reported that Nicholas Cage has signed up for a lead role in Roman Polanski's forthcoming thriller Ghost.
