Baron Cohen signs up for Holmes

Borat creator Sacha Baron Cohen is to be the latest star to don deer stalker and pipe in a new movie about Sherlock Holmes.

Guy Ritchie recently announced he is to helm a separate Holmes movie that will focus on the legendary detective's boxing and swordsman skills, but the Cohen's film is to have a comedic slant.

As-yet-untitled, Cohen will be joined by Will Ferrell as Dr Watson – the pair having last worked together two years ago on Talladega Nights.

Talking to Variety, studio spokesman Matt Tolmach said: "Just the idea of Sacha and Will as Sherlock Holmes and Watson made us laugh.

"Sacha and Will are two of the funniest and most talented guys on the planet and having them take on these two iconic characters is frankly hilarious."

Many actors have portrayed the famous detective on the big screen in the past, including Charlton Heston, Christopher Lee, Roger Moore and Peter Lawford.

Sacha Baron Cohen was recently invited to join the Oscar panel.
