Step Brothers tops box office

Will Ferrell's latest comedy caper Step Brothers has gone straight to the top of the UK box office chart.

The film – which stars Ferrell and John C Reilly as two immature men forced to share a room after their single parents marry – made £1.16 million during its first three days on release.

Abba musical Mamma Mia starring Meryl Streep and Pierce Bronson is still a bit hit with cinemagoers, retaining second place on the chart

Elsewhere, new horror film The Strangers from first time director Bryan Bertino entered the chart in third place.

Hellboy II: The Golden Army slipped down to fourth place, while The Dark Knight dropped one place but remained just inside the week's top five.

Christopher Nolan's second Batman feature recently became only the second film ever to break the $500 million (£276.8 million) barrier in the US, topped only by James Cameron's hit Titanic in 1997.
