Stiller in talks to helm Chicago 7
Ben Stiller is in early discussions to direct The Trial of the Chicago 7 for
Steven Spielberg's DreamWorks.
The films tells the story of the 1968 riots at the Democratic convention in Chicago and would be Stiller's first foray into directing a drama.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, it is one of the fist films Spielberg has developed for Dreamworks since it moved to Universal from Paramount.
It would be marked change of direction for Stiller, who has previously directed big-budget comedies such as
Zoolander and
Tropic Thunder.
West Wing creator Aaron Sorkin has penned the screenplay for the film, which is aiming to move into production by spring next year.
However, Stiller is not the only name that has been tipped to take the director's chair, with reports claiming
Paul Greengrass is among other big names that have been approached.
According to Variety, Spielberg himself considered helming the project, but has now stepped aside.
