Based on stories from the bestselling book The Girls' Guide To Hunting And Fishing, Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy The Vampire Slayer, The Grudge) stars in this funny and disarmingly wise romantic comedy set against the exhilarating backdrop of New York City. Gellar is Brett, a naive associate book editor embarking on her first big job. Brett is overwhelmed until she develops a romance with the seasoned literary star Archie Knox (30 Rock's Alec Baldwin) and is introduced to a glamorous new world. But when she faces a family crisis, Brett must make the decision of a lifetime as this girl from the 'burbs finds herself at a big-city crossroads.

Shockingly poor

Michelle Schofield from London, 8th July, 2008

Having recently seen and loved Sex and the City the movie, I was looking for something to feed my appetite for a similar sassy, intelligent, witty and girly film. Having read the blurb on this, I thought it might have been just what I was looking for and with Sarah Michelle Gellar surely it would be atleast half decent? Erm no.....shocking is the word I would use for how poor this film was. The supposed heroine was a total drip and completely pathetic, her love interest (a rip off of Carrie and Mr Big) completely unbelievable, unlikeable and had more than just a little bit of a pervy old man vibe to him! Cliched, quite boring and with some finger down the throat inducing cheesy lines, this certainly didn't fit the bill of what i was looking for. To be fair to follow SATC is a tall order, but the fact that my friends and I were looking at eachother in confusion and disbelief, waiting for a punchline that never came for most of the film, is never really a sign of a good movie! Don't waste your time!!

Absolute rubbish

Churst from , 17th July, 2008

I didn't even finish it because the storyline was so flat, and the acting so poor. It was pretty hard to even work out what the storyline was, so my review I'm afraid is as vague as the film. I just gave up on it in the end.

Dull, disappointing

Paolo56 from , 3rd May, 2009

Imagine an episode of Sex and the City with no strong secondary characters, all the wit, perception, intelligence and fashion taken out, and stretched to 90 minutes and you'll have a fair idea of what this is like. It comes over as a disjointed series of sketches, with none of the issues that arise resolved convincingly if at all. None of the characters changes or grows or learns anything. SMG struggles to present an engaging character with little opportunity offered by script or direction, and Alex Baldwin's sleazebag character failed to convince. All this and an irritating soundtrack too.

A 'so what' movie

Gray from London, England, 25th April, 2009

Never mind 'what if?', this is 'so what?' I've never previously given 1 star except when Tesco sent the wrong movie. But this movie, unfortunately, was the right one. And I'm still yawning from watching it. Boy-girl rom coms need an extra twist; the only extra twist here is that he (Archie) is much older than she (Brett). He prides himself on how many young women he's dated; she's on the rebound from a relationship with a guy her own age. Vaguely reminiscent of Carrie & Mr Big in Sex And The City except that there we were introduced to the characters slowly, but here we're straight into it. Lots of generational misunderstandings, like he doesn't know what a Blackberry is so he calls it a Boysenberry. (The writer used that one twice as he was so short of ideas!) But apart from that, I never 'got' this movie at all. I never cared whether they would, or wouldn't, eventually get together. The answer, BTW, is they don't. There, I've saved you 90 minutes of boredom.
