Another original and stylish tale from South Korean director Chan-Wook Park (OLDBOY, LADY VENGEANCE) in which a young girl—who believes herself to be a defence robot—enters a psychiatric facility, where she meets other, similarly-deluded characters.

Variety

Witty, playful, romantic, tragic, Park Chan-wook's I'M A CYBORG is a whole chocolate box of emotions in a highly decorative but absolutely characteristic wrapping

Worth the Effort

Pugeater from , 13th July, 2008

Weird, weird, weird! Went on abit but worth the effort for the Cyborg sequences. Imagine someone went into a studio executive and pitched this as an idea?

Not Psycho, cyborg!

A Customer from North Walsham, Norfolk, 22nd May, 2009

Initially this film is confusing, there's flashbacks dream sequences and more however once you are into it you are hooked and able to follow the meandering path of the story. Set in a mental hospital you see others reasons for being in there, different levels of illness, their interactions with one another, it's far better than I've made it sound, it's lovingly shot and very dream like. Not the best Korean movie but really very enjoyable. BR as always makes the picture amazing. If you like foreign cinema then give it a go.

Quaint

Jeffa from , 8th January, 2009

This poor little Korean sweetheart is mentally deluded into believing she is a Cyborg after being brought up by her grandmother, whom is institutionalised herself. The story has some interesting twists and turns like her dream sequences being turned into a violent outburst of machine gun useage on both doctors and patients. The dream sequences are very akin to the Austin Power Cyborg sequences in the Spy who Shagged me. Except she has the manipulation of only her hands as guns and a mouth that spils the used shells. Amongst this comedy there are some touching and yet tragec moments. But the basis is to not let mental patients try to heal each other. This makes an interesting and entertaining watch but requires patience and let the patients onscreen tell the story. An interesting if badly translated interview with the director on the DVD at its screening in London in November 2007. I would say it was a good foreign language film which even if you didn't understand a word or didn't turn the Subtitles on would be like one of the old Buster keaton and Charlie Chaplin movies. The story is told with pathos and a slightly vixen wickedness at the same time. Some scenes unsuitable for children though. Definitely worth a rent.

If you like a challenge!!

A Customer from wakefield, 20th December, 2008

To liken this film to 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest' would be streching the imagination just a little but nevertheless this film is probably the best mental illness based black comedy since the 1975 Oscar winning film. A gentle love storey set in a mental institution will not be everyones cup of tea and it is a film that requires a little effort and patience but it is worth it. The blend of real and then surreal and the always sympathetic treatment of mental illness is in my opinion perfect. If you like a challenge give it a try.
