Radio Times

There are no real surprises in this ponderous journey to the final frontier, in which Admiral Kirk hijacks the starship Enterprise to help in the rejuvenation of the deceased Spock on the planet Genesis. It's a good character-driven story, marred by Leonard Nimoy's workmanlike direction, a pseudo-mystical ending and an all-pervasive funereal tone that permeates every frame. Amazing special effects supply the wonder and emotional charge missing from what is, in essence, nothing more than a bloated TV episode.

An Ok film

Andrew Eustance from Liverpool, England, 20th September, 2007

The search for spock follows on from the Wraith of Khan following Kirk and the Enterprise crew stealing the ship and travelling back to Genesis to rescue their fallen comrade. Not the best of the original cast Star Trek Films, however not the worst (Star Trek Five). Does however manage to pull it off with moments like the thief of the Enterprise and the punch up between Kirk and the Klingon commander (Christopher Lloydd). Would recommend to anyone who is a vivid fan of the original series.

Nowhere near as bad as I remembered!

CrazyDrummer from , 1st October, 2006

I remember this as one of the poorer Star Trek movies (the old odd-numbered curse) but actually having just watched it soon after ST II-The Wrath Of Khan it's actually pretty good. Not much Spock (obviously) but it has some great moments for McCoy, Scotty and Sulu and a good punch up for Kirk at the end. I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it so I can't tell you what happens but there is a moment when William Shatner really HAS to act and he rises to the task magnificently. He conveys the shock and pain his character would be feeling perfectly. He's utterly believable and it's a genuinely moving scene. So if your memories of this ST movie are that it's not so good - try it again maybe you'll be as pleasantly surprised as I was. My 11 year old daughter loved it too!

Very Endearing

A Customer from Great Shefford, England, 1st February, 2005

I thought that this film was rather sweet and that the special effects were light years better than those from the original series. I also liked the fact that there was no mawkish romance. However, I think you have to be a Star Trek to fully appreciate it.

Excellent

Gazza89 from from Hoddesdon, 18th October, 2008

All the Trek movies are pretty much excellent except the first one which is a bit slow, but the search for spock is a great movie it has everything you need and is directed by Spock and so is the next movie which in my opinion is the best Trek movie of all time and stuff the eleventh movie!

A bit of a filler...

A Customer from Birmingham, 19th September, 2008

Compared to the second and fourth films this moves with slower pace although it is competently handled.
