Teens! And Comedy! Together At Last!

David Levy from Totteridge, London, 7th October, 2004

Despite having an almost decent cast, including Ryan Reynolds and Ron Livingston, Buying The Cow is an almost complete failure.

While there are those that might find a man watching a 'Are You Gay?' video funny, or a jokes involving 'well developed' 11 year olds amusing, I was not one.

Bridgette Wilson and Jerry O'Connell have zero chemistry as our leading lady and man, which is quite ironic, as they are both total personality and charisma free zones, and would probably work well together in real life. Its a shame she managed to marry the only man duller on the entire planet (Pete Sampras) before this movie was made.

So, go ahead if you've got an unbearable urge to lower your IQ, but the rest should stay clear.

I enjoyed this movie, it has alot of very funny parts. Probably not the best storyline although I didn't see the end coming! Worth watching for sure.

Laughed my bum off

jadeFlower from bedfordshire, 7th July, 2004

OK I admit I am a sucker for a silly comedy and this film did go straight to video, but saying that, this was still highly enjoyable. The main plot was engrossing enough with a few fun twists but this film is worth watching just for the scenes with Ryan Reynolds (Van Wilder).

He is so funny and his scenes are hilarious. To watch him descend into deepening anxiety over his sexual 'choice' was fantastic. Worth watching just for that.

Don't expect too much and you'll be pleasantly surprised at how fun this is.

I found this film surprising, I didn't expect much from it as I had never heard of it before and assumed it would be a low budget film and therefore rubbish, but I thought it was rather good and well worth viewing, even if only once.

Average but quite funny

russianout from from Midlothian, 26th June, 2008

A bit of a silly comedy but there WERE moments where I laughed out loud. Not the worst film, not the best, but a fairly decent way to spend 90mins. You kinda know what you're getting when you rent a film like this.

Not making any headlines

Davey1989 from from London, 22nd March, 2008

You most probably have never heard of Buying The Cow, because pretty much nobody has. It is a very low budget film that didn't even make it to the cinema, and you can pretty much tell that is the case when you watch it. Don't get me wrong, it isn't terrible, you will get a few laughs from it but is quite obvious it wasn't intending on winning any awards. It is not a new plot line and the whole story line is a little bit predictable, and it’s something that we have all seen before. None the less this is still quite a fun light comedy to watch on a rainy day. The film is based around David, who is given an ultimatum by his girlfriend as to whether he really wants to get married or not. This is where he decided that he has to experiment with other women to find out if his girlfriend truly is the one. He does this by enlisting the help of his best friends Mike and Jonesy. Ryan Reynolds highlights the whole film with is performance as Mike, and is clearly the one who brings about the most comedy with his phrases and physical comedy. The same however can not really be said about Jerry O'Connell who didn't really do much with his role, considering he was the main character in a comedy film. I found him a bit boring and didn't really bring much to the film. There are a few twists and turns in the film to keep you watching until the end with much of the dialogue providing a realistic account of 20-somethings. However when you do reach the ending, it can be seen as a bit of a disappointment, as it didn't really seem appropriate considering that the whole film had been building up to it. It almost seemed as though the film makers ran out of time and/or money so decided to call it quits. So the film was not terrible, and was definitely watchable if you enjoy light comedies. If you enjoyed the film Tomcats or The 40 Year Old Virgin, then I would say that this is for you. But don't expect a blockbuster of a film.

Boring!

Deb Walker from Essex, England, 5th November, 2006

I've rented some pretty decent films recently, but this was not one of them! Found it very boring, and ended up going on my computer instead!
