Like the 2003 animated short films of the same name, STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS reveals what happened during the conflicts of the title, which are set between EPISODE II: ATTACK OF THE CLONES and EPISODE III: REVENGE OF THE SITH. Unlike the former series, this CLONE WARS feature film uses computer animation--rather than more traditional 2-D animation--to tell its tales. The action centres on Obi-Wan Kenobi (voiced by James Arnold Taylor), Anakin Skywalker (Matt Lanter), and precocious new Jedi recruit Ahsoka Tano (Ashley Eckstein), as they face off against the sinister Separatist forces led by Count Dooku (the legendary Christopher Lee, who reprises his role from the live-action movies). The film also features appearances by such beloved characters as Mace Windu (Samuel L. Jackson, also of EPISODES II and III), C3PO (Anthony Daniels), and Yoda (Tom Kane).
Directed by Dave Filoni (AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER), THE CLONE WARS shares the same era and characters as the 2003 series, but is stylistically quite different, with a blocky look influenced in part by the marionettes of the 1960s U.K. show THUNDERBIRDS. While the voices of actors such as Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christiansen, and Frank Oz are missed, their successors handle their mantles well, confidently leading the heroes in fierce battles and tense chases. Though diehards of the original STAR WARS trilogy may shrug their shoulders at the CGI wizardry, young fans will find much to enjoy in this action-packed movie, which promises to be continued in a regular Cartoon Network TV series.

A missed opportunity! One for the kids, not die hard Star Wars fans

Jonathan Pounder from Hartlepool, 14th August, 2008

To sum it up in one sentence - this film has the love child of Jabba the Hutt and South Parks' Cartman. No opening Star Wars title, no Star Wars music, Christopher Lee not sounding like Christopher Lee, the Jedi wanting a truce with Jabba the Hutt, Anakin with a Padawan; a baby Jabba the Hutt. The film sits between episodes 2 and 3 but there is very little interlinking them, this film is more targetted at children and the upcoming cartoon series. Die hard Star Wars fans actually left the cinema in disgust during the film - thats how bad it gets! If you are a fan and want to watch this film, dont expect to much. This film had huge potential, sadly it fell well sort of the mark. If you are a young person then you will love it!

star wars!

R000ORY from , 30th March, 2009

NONSENSE!!!! Lets get this right...This is a sequel?? hahahaha dont make me laugh...this has absolutely none of the main characters from the first film and nor does it have any conceivable story like its predecessor..Its set in prison where appropriately all the main football firms are living together in close quarters...also the firms are setup in the same cells as each other and to cap??? I mean am I the only one here that thinks thats absurd?? To cap it all off the acting is appauling and theres nothing here that interests you unless your thing is mindless fighting for no apparent reason...No wonder this one went straight to DVD release...ABSOLUTE RUBBISH!!

Less embarassing than the prequels

TheFlaneur from , 16th October, 2008

Ok. Most of you reading this are going to be adults. You're also going to think that this film is a pile of poo. I went to see this film expecting to be buttock clenchingly embarassed and guess what? I wasn't. Firstly you must lower your expectations young Padawan You are never going to get that original feeling of awe back which you had when you were a young Star Wars fan. Yes it is a kids film and lets face it, Star Wars films are always kid's film. The greatest pleasure I get from Star Wars now is watching it with my kids and seeing the wonder in their faces I had when I saw the first film in 1977(thats 1st not 4th). As for the adult star wars fans, get over it and go and watch some Godard or Fellini if this is too kiddy for you. The story may be a bit dodgy but, at least Lucas has allowed other peoples creative influence on this film. The prequels suffered because there was too much Lucas in them and really they became pastiche of the first three originals. This on the other hand is at least trying to do something different. The animation is great and I feel that the prequels should have been made as animation like this, as those films really are very cartoon in style. Strangely Anakin is no less wooden in cartoon format than the real actor who plays him. It is gret to see a little bit of banter and humour in Clone Wars. I think the prequels also suffered by being too po-faced. Overall a pleasant surprise

It's just like another film for kids from cartoon network

Picktokyo from from London, England, 21st August, 2008

I'm a hard core starwars fans. I think, this movie is ok IF it just a home video movie or as a promo release. But as a movie this is a disappointment. It can't be compared to any of the starwars movie before. This movie is just for kids, the dialogs also immature. Its just not right.

Pointless Pointless

DaiBoy81 from , 9th June, 2010

The more stuff that is done under the star wars name the more I dislike it. I understand the series set between episode 2 & 3, I haven't seen them all as its really aimed at a younger audience. However, I just don't see any point to this feature length. It doesn't progress the story at all. You're in the same position after this film as you were at the beginning. Can't help but think its a cash cow made for the sake of getting something else out with a star wars tag. Avoid.

for the kids really

screen77 from , 23rd May, 2010

This fills the gap story wise between episodes 2 & 3,before Anakin Skywalker turns to the dark side.No shortage of action as you'd expect from a STAR WARS film, although you do get the feeling it's there to cover up a weak story line. The animation is faultless the same can't be said for Obi-wans dodgy english accent.Thank god Lucas decided not to make episodes 7-9 after the desperate state of the prequels, this is better than expected but i think it is more for kids than adults.Good, but it's time to put the STAR WARS franchise to bed.

More Star Wars ...

RichFan from , 4th May, 2010

I love Star Wars, I even didn't mind the prequels ... ... This is just a bit too much this expanded universe stuff is just not interesting. Star Wars success came from its amazing, deep characters - basically you just wanna see Darth Vader, TIE Fighters, Han Solo looking cool and light sabre battles taking place on a giant battle stations. This has a few of the elements, but its just not as done as good as the Star Wars originals. Sorry George ... Jedi Knights games on the PC where good though! :O)

george,just stop it!!!!!!!!

deevoscranium from , 24th April, 2010

I really cannot understand the point of this,it really is bad, bad, bad!!!!!!! My kid loves it,i hate it,im a hardcore star wars fan and anakin having a padawan is just way out of character and the jedi order would never allow it as anakin is too unstable, also anakin is just too mature which does not make sense as he acts like a spoilt brat in episode 3,too many siths, anakins padawan is really annoying!!!!!terrible voice overs from actors trying to be the real deal, avoid really poor. One other thing, this is nothing like the fantastic animated clone wars from 2003.
