Directors Johnnie To (TRIAD ELECTION) and Wai Ka Fai (FULLTIME KILLER) team up for this quirky action film that was a huge hit in its native Hong Kong. Lau Ching Wan (BLACK MASK) plays Bun, a criminal profiler who's gone off the deep end. After slicing off his ear at a going-away party, he's forced to turn in his badge. Nevertheless Bun's madness comes with a power: the ability to see people's innermost desires. It's a talent that puts him back into action when the police encounter a particularly baffling case. The line between reality and fantasy bends in this surreal thriller that redefines the detective genre.

Independent On Sunday

There's bound to be a Hollywood remake in the next year or two. There's more to MAD DETECTIVE than a wacky visual idea – although that would have been enough to make it one of the most entertaining cop movies in some time. My money's on Nicolas Cage for the remake

The clue is in the title!

I had heard great things of this film from Hong Kong where it was a massive hit, and was not disappointed. I don't want to give much away so really simply its about a literally 'mad Detective' who helps with a case which has remained unsolved for 18 months. His unorthadox detective techniques cause personal anguish and disapproval amongst his peers.Its a very original story and generally well acted. Its well written and the subtitles seem to translate well not leaving you confused. Its overly violent and contains many moments of humour. If you are a fan of films like, Bittersweet Life, Memories of Murder, Infernal Afffairs etc this is afilm for you. The only negative for me was that the Blu Ray transfer was not exactly stunning, but still a superior picture obviously.
