A beautiful and well done drama

This film was very well done. It kept me entertained throughout and made me want to not only learn more about Dame Margot Fonteyn and Rudolph Nureyev but get to a ballet performance as soon as possible.

I wish I hadn't seen this!

I was curious to know about Dame Margot's life, but I wish I hadn't bothered watching this film, for two reasons: 1. Duff who played Margot was totally wrong for the part. 2.The private life of Margot should have been kept private as it is not a private life that does any favours to the amazing ballerina she was. They should have chosen an actress with finer, more classical features and someone who could portray and capture the Margot magic that was seen on stage, off stage too. Clearly we saw it on stage so that was a part of her quality as a human being, Duff failed to portray that and I was therefore never quite convinced of her performance. But one of the biggest reasons that I wish I hadn't bothered seeing this film, is because I was really shocked to see possibly one of the greatest ballerina's of all time could be so unbelievably silly when it came to her love life. Her husband cheated on her for years, yet she stayed with him, even when he became a paraplegic.(which possibly happened because he was cheating around with the shooter politician's wife).She continued to dance late into her life just to pay for his hospital bills and stayed with him to the end, when he died. That's not love, that's stupidity, and clearly a very one sided devotion.That's a woman that thought that for some reason she had to stay with a man who never made her or her art a priority in his life. This is indeed a sad testament to a woman that could create magic on stage, and had she given herself a chance, could possibly have done the same in her private life,(she did have a highly publicised passionate love affair with Nureyev)had she loved herself enough to do so.Shame really: as good a ballerina as she was, my estimation of her as a woman has has been lowered considerably now I know of her bizarre devotion to a husband who never honoured her.
