more irritating than 'mad, bad & dangerous to know'

sue beer from middle england, 1st December, 2004

very obviously made for TV-in-two-parts pretend movie. Appalling soundtrack. superficial concentration only on the sexual aspect of his life, little about political & economic forces driving him. missed opportunity to cover anything meaningful about Shelley or Mary Shelley ... Not recommended.

Martin

A Customer from Lincolnshire, 15th July, 2004

Good quality television period drama. Nicely filmed with convincing evocation of period and locations in Greece, England and Italy. Characterisation and acting are strong. The shock that Byron created in his own age resonates through the film and can draw parallels with modern arts personalities such as Marilyn Manson.

Entertaining but slow.

A Customer from Exmouth, 31st July, 2008

While the story of Byron's life makes for an interesting and potentially shocking plot, this adaption does rather drag it's feet. I expected the portrayal of a vibrant, outrageous and colourful public character who recoiled into depression when alone, not the greyish consistency that seems to dawdle along throughout. Shelley almost seemed like an after thought and his relationship with Byron, understated. The acting was generally good but in my opinion, the protagonist wasn't enigmatic enough. This was a character who scandalised London with his exploits. It's hard to tell, from this adaption, HOW!

Interesting introduction to the subject

Wife of subscriber from Cardiff, 4th August, 2007

I enjoyed most of this film (the lighter aspects more than the darker). I also found it interesting. This is another film in which I enjoyed the performance of Stephen Campbell Moore. And Jonny Lee Miller (who I'm not aware of having seen before) was a real treat!

Disappointing

A Customer from UK, 19th November, 2005

Very disappointng for a BBC drama. The film focuses almost entirely on Byron's sex life.
