How do you follow a debut like the hit coming-of-age comedy Dil Chahta Hai? Well, the movie's director Farhan Akhtar brought his famous father, Javed Akhtar, out of semi-retirement to script this epic tale of a spoilt brat's discovery of his true self on the field of combat. Some will see comparisons with Govind Nihalani's 1983 film Vijeta, as wastrel Hrithik Roshan is persuaded by journalist girlfriend Preity Zinta to seek a purpose in life and enrol as an army cadet under Colonel Amitabh Bachchan. Nevertheless, this remains a full-throttled adventure that makes spectacular use of the mountain scenery around Ladakh.

good bollywood movie

A Customer from LEEDS, 23rd October, 2004

The script and potrayal of chracters is done very well. The characters are quite imaginable.(For the first time a war movie made in bollywood shows hero's hair trimmed army style.) Hrithik shows he can act without being overdramatic. If you are sharukh fan you probably wont like this movie. No fantasy stuff here.Full marks to Farhan for giving bollywood viewers some believable war footage.

It had the potential to be great!!!

A Customer from England, 28th November, 2004

The film had a lot to live upto being the second offering of Farhan after the hugh success that was Dil Chata Hai. It started of well, kept you interested, I thought ok this looks different. The main story being about Hrithik looking for his objective in life (his lakshya). It continues to hold your attention when it stays to this theme. However where this film lets itself down is when it goes off the path of Hrithik's lakshya and starts focusing more on the war aspect. The war setting was well incorporated into the film when it was part of Hirthik's story and had it kept this role the film would have done far greater.

Not to be missed

Wian from Canary Wharf, London, 28th February, 2006

The second movie from Farhan Akhtar (director) recofirms his position as a director par excellence. Though this movie was not a box-office hit, it succeeds to capture the transformation of a boy to man, that each one of us experience in our life. Ritik Roshan has communicated the sensivities of the character with professional acumen. He is supported by a stellar performance by amitabh bachchan and priety zinta. Overall a great movie!

This film belongs to Farhan and Hrithik

A Customer from Poole, UK, 22nd October, 2004

Another good film by Farhan Akhtar in the form of Lakshya. Hrithik Roshan fits his character to the T and emerges trumps. Another great performance by Hrithik Roshan to remember. The cinematography is excellent. Direction by Farhan Akhtar is good as well. Preity Zinta looks horrible and is not able to carry off her part well, downer for Preity ! Music is bad, sadly. But the film overall is too good. The war portions are quite realistic. Watch this film.

shame about the subtitles

A Customer from Brighton, 27th November, 2007

I bought Dil Chahta Hai on DVD after buying the soundtrack on holiday in India, and liked it a lot. The few (compared to some other Bollywood films I have seen) songs in this film are not as good, in the case of the song they men sang before the fighting started a bit inappropriate in terms of timing. The cinematography is fantastic. Main reason for the low raqting are the subtitles. I do not speak Hindi so rely on the English subtitles, but unfortunately these were completely out of sync with the film (later than the actual spoken dialogue). Especially in scenes where people were talking a lot it was difficult to keep track of who was saying what, and it did spoil the tension in the battle scene so much that I almost switched it off.
