no language options!

A Customer from Herts., 13th February, 2006

For some reason Tartan DVD have chosen to release this film in a mandarin dub, instead of the cantonese original. If you appreciate Tony and co's acting and the humour of cantonese speech, you'll be very disappointed at this. If you rent this disc be warned there is no option to change the language track, which I think is nonsensical. Please note the rating is not a reflection on the film, only the disc options.

Brain in Neutral for this one !

A Customer from london, 1st April, 2005

From the title you could be fooled into thinking that this movie would be a real bum numbing experience, a grand epic on the proportions of 'the last samurai'. Get this notion out of your head. This is basically a mickey take of all the grand movies of this type, crouching tiger etc. As long as you accept this then the giggles will flow aswell as the wine. The jokes may fly above the head of some who aren't used to far east humour but its pretty enjoyable. Set around a would be emperor and his sister who long to escape their royal bonds each encounters an unlikely love match in the the form of a restaraunt owner and her bad boy brother 'king Bully'. Genders are swapped and confusion follows. Just watch it and don't take it it too seriously

A kung fu slapped surprise

Koppert from from Scarborough, 14th March, 2005

I was expecting this to be a history drama due to the cover and title. However I was surprised to be bombarded with a stream of comedy and it turned out to be a quirkey little kung fu comedy well worth watching!

An absolute delight

hazel dewar from Glasgow Scotland, 19th January, 2008

A thoroughly enjoyable piece of entertainment , action packed, classic comedy moments and romance! What more could you ask for. The action is terrific but what clinched it for me is the comedy - I laughed out loud at many scenes. Terrific.

Comedy Of Sorts

Ian Davies from Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales, 4th July, 2007

This award winning Hong Kong film is certainly not to all tastes, and I will admit that the comedy was something that I didn't quite get. There are a few mild chuckles along the way, with some twists and turns in the tale, but on the whole a disappointing experience, especially from Tony Leung.
