Worth it just for the extras
RJ from Edinburgh, Scotland, 17th July, 2005
This DVD has some beautiful black and white films! I was not too keen on the commentary finding it quite sterile and bland. However for me the best bit of this whole DVD was by far the extras. If you have a spare moment, get this DVD and watch the extras, which and true amazing.

Historical View
Brian Faulkner from Bridgwater, England, 27th February, 2007
I suppose in todays advanced film production it is easy to be critical of the limited ability to do anything but point the camera and it is necessary to get past that in order to view this superb historical view of life. I was amazed that, despite the number of horse and carts, there was very little evidence of material being shovelled up to put in gardens.

I found this selection of short films very interesting, I particularly liked the 'Factory Gate' films which showed people leaving work unaware that they were going to be filmed. It is not easy to find examples of true working class clothing and I thought the different ways the women wore their shawls in a selection of towns was an interesting insight. This collection would be very helpful for anyone studying working class life at the turn of the century as these people were not posing in their Sunday best.

Electric Edwardians
A Customer from Leics, 31st December, 2008
This piece of history is a window into the lives of our ancestors, the only thing I could think of when I was watching was I wonder how many of the children featured later died in the first world war, what you see is a glimpse of the lost generation in the age of innocence, before the horrors of the two world wars. I cannot recommend this highly enough.
