Only For Big Lips Fans!!!

Ed from North London, 12th March, 2006

Having watched Dig, the excellent Dandy Warhols documentary I thought I would try this. I am not a big Flaming Lips fan, the only song I really know is Do You Realise. Having seen this film I certainly won't be seeking out their back catalogue. Basically, the Flaming Lips are very self consciously 'wacky' and this really begins to grate after a while. The film is akin to listening to someone's 'free associations' after they have taken vast quantities of acid:-moments of interest but generally rambling and self indulgent.

Okay but more for fans

McClennan from , 25th July, 2006

I've never really been able to get into The Flaming Lips and its only in recent years that I've seen why they're so big so I was interested in this documentary about then. Although there were several revealing moments, in the end I wasn't tempted to seek out any of their material and the documentary really didn't persuade me that they are anything more than a good live band with a nice line in gimmicks. Not really in the same calibre a doc as Dig! or The Ramones: End Of A Century.

If you like The Flaming Lips, you will like this..

A Customer from West End of Glasgow, Scotland, 7th June, 2005

This is a real 'behind the scenes/warts n all' DVD, showing all the ups and downs of The Flaming Lips' career. Lots of quirky stuff like Wayne Coyne cutting his grass and great later footage of them on stage, with all the usual paraphernalia i.e. glove puppets, fake blood, confetti and giant bubbles. Bonus disk wasn't very good though. Hence why only the 4 stars.

a little more

blahblahblah from , 5th February, 2009

Before we start, I confess that I love a lot of their music - a Mojo interview with Wayne Coyne got my interest, & I had to hear them. Something more than just the history of The Flaming Lips, this DVD gives a glimpse of their personal history & roots, & is an elegy to absent/deceased loved ones, as well as a meditation on passing time, & ourselves passing with it. Don't be put off - it's also enteraining!

I love these guys

hardtoplease from from London, 1st August, 2008

Not enough live stuff but that's my one complaint out of the way. When I saw them at Hammersmith a couple of years ago they moved me to tears(for all the right reasons) This documetry made me love them more. A charming bunch of guys. Some revealing stuff about the drummers drug problems (they're allways a problem in the end kids) and Wayne Coynes understanding and wise non intervention on the matter (well up the point where he confesses to giving the guy a well deserved smack to the head) was refreshing. If you love them like I do then this will only make you love them more. There fans come accross as a lovely bunch as well, but maybe that's just being a little self serving.

charmed I'm sure

A Customer from sandy, 1st April, 2007

At 1st I was disappointed that there wasn't more FLips live music, but the film was absorbing & poignant & quite charming; the band are surprisingly unassuming for such talented geezers.
