Telescoping Time

Sometimes it's hard to get a perspective on recent history. Friends and Crocodiles reflects changing attitudes and politics from the early eighties to early noughties. The new technology and the changing fashions are brilliantly shown. Damien Lewis is almost magnetic in his Gatsby-like role. Robert Lindsey is also excellent as a commentator on the changing fortunes and Johdi Mahr is remarkable . Stephen Poliakof is a marvelous storyteller. Enjoy and be surprised about what you've forgotten.

Thumbs down from me.

I was disappointed in this film. Contrary to other reviewers, I felt that Damian Lewis as a playboy entrpreneur of the eighties was either miscast or misdirected and as I don't believe Damian Lewis is capable of bad acting, I blame the director. It was a caricature of the eighties lifestyle, with every cliche in the book but none of the humour.

Outstanding BBC Drama

Bert Jones from Wirral, England, 3rd February, 2006

One of the latest Stephen Poliakof dramas. Brilliantly acted, produced and directed. The sets, historical context and locations are all perfect. I think that this will be one of the best new productions of 2006.

Friends and Crocodiles

Good movie but if you've already seen a couple of Poiiakoff's this might be one too many - there are too many similarities between this and his two most recent pieces - Joe's Palace and Capturing Mary (which are both excellent)..

come again?

bluebeloved from , 15th April, 2008

I watched this with a friend and we both just worried we had missed something essential! The film tries so hard to be intelligent and just ends up being unfathomable - well from our perspective it did! Quirky annoying characters that do nothing to draw you in. Cliched view of the past. Odd and strangely unbeguiling.
