Still Hilarious

Mazda1 from Nottingham, 6th January, 2006

I love this series, I hadn't seen series four, until renting it from here and I wasn't disappointed. So many comedies seem to lose their way and become unfunny, this series has the makings of a classic in my opinion, a comedy which will always be funny however many times you see it.

If you aren't familiar with it, it's a series about two pensioners, Jack and Victor, who live in a tower block on the same floor, on the same floor also lives Isa, a nosey, gossiping woman, who can talk for Scotland, it's always fun to see the lads getting into the lift and hammering the close door button, to try to close it before Isa can get in the lift with them. They drink at The Clansman, which is run by Bobby, a mullet haired man, famous for his cold in the middle pies, as cooked in his dodgy microwave. Their friends are Winston, who can only be described as an angry pensioner, but hilariously funny, Tam who cadges anything and everything off of anyone and everyone and Navid who runs the shop where Isa is the cleaner, his dry wit and sarcasm is legendery.

The actors are great, Ford Kiernan as Jack, Greg Hemphill as Victor, Paul Riley as Winston, Sanjeev Kohli as Navid, Jane McCarry as Isa, Mark Cox as Tam, Gavin Mitchell as Bobby.

This series is a definate must see.

Not For The English

Baz from Motherwell, SCOTLAND, 22nd September, 2007

So yet another programme with characters speaking with a 'thick Scottish accent'. This might have even been unusual except for the fact it is a Scottish programme with Scottish accents based in a Glasgow council estate. What accents are they supposed to have then? Thich Peruvian accents for instance or thick Costa Rican accents perhaps?

How many English programmes do we Scots have to endure with thick Cockney accents, or thick Scouse accents, or thick Brummie or thick Gerodie accents? And yet no one up here complains about needing sub titles despite the fact that we can't understand a word of it. If we can't undestand it then we don't watch it.

Get this....... STILL GAME is a Scottish programme for Scottish people. Even the writers couldn't care less whether it is broadcast in England or not because they never intended it for an English audience.

TO ALL ENGLISH PEOPLE WHO NEED SUB-TITLES TO WATCH SCOTTISH PROGRAMMES - Do yourself a favour. Do not rent these dvds, do not even watch them if they come on tv. Stick to programmes in your own particular regional dialect which you can understand and that way us Scots (not Scotch) will not have to endure your constant whining about sub titles.

No bad

A Customer from here, 4th May, 2007

Great series, although the pathos and social commentary of earlier series has been largely lost. It is a great series of real depth and character and a very very underated comedy. Why? Because it's Scottish and doesn't rely on the usual stereotypes, of drunks in string vests. Any complaint of the lack of subtitles says more about the viewer than the production.
