Unadulterated Brilliance (except for the extra features)

A Customer from London, 12th October, 2006

Series two of 'Criminal Intent' is arguably the finest of all the five seasons broadcast so far. Vincent D'Onofrio's Goren is at his quirky, insightful best, Kathryn Erbe shines as his no nonsense partner, Courtney Vance effortlessly oozes charm as ADA Carver and Sheridan’s Captain Deakins guides his detectives with a slightly bemused air. The plots are even more unexpected and complex than on the original Law and Order, the motivations of the criminals deeper and more thickly layered. This is a why-dunnit rather than a who-dunnit, setting the show apart from the myriad of other American cop shows. Cross Sherlock Holmes with Columbo and triple the energy level and you almost get Detective Robert Goren. Interrogation scenes keep you glued to the screen. Goren’s nemesis Nicole Wallace makes her unforgettable debut. Not a bad episode in the bunch, but several superlative ones. My only complaint would be with the DVD features- there aren’t any. No featurettes, no interviews, no alternative language dubbing, not even any subtitles. This series was originally broadcast over three years ago. Was there not time to transcribe it?

GREAT AMERICAN POLICE DRAMA

lynchmob from from Great Yarmouth, 6th February, 2008

I have just finished watching Law &Order CI Series 2 and once again I am amazed at the continued quality of American Crime Dramas. They are so much slicker than any produced in this country and I can only advise others to add the Law & Order series onto their wish lists if they like Police/Crime dramas.
