Familia Rondante is a charming and hilarious road movie. The tale begins in Buenos Aires with the 84th birthday of Grandma Emilia, who tells her stunned family that she has been invited to be matron of honour at her niece's wedding and expects them to accompany her on the thousand kilometre trip. One heavy dose of emotional blackmail later, thirteen members of four generations cram into a ramshackle old camper van and set off on the epic journey across Argentina...

Charming but slightly tiresome local-colour film

Rehan from , 12th April, 2006

There's nothing wrong with this film, which easily finds itself in the 'charming' category. But its very charm can become wearisome, and I have to say I can heppily do without yet another film with an illicit brother/sister-in-law relationship. While probably being a creditable achievement for Argentine cinema, it's not really THAT fantastic for a jaded UK viewer.

Excellent road movie!

A Customer from England, 5th August, 2007

As it happens with any road movie, road, cars, and landscape are excuses for developing a story; the road chosen could not have been better, landscapes are superb, and the caravan they travel with is a gem on its own! Each of the 12 people on this caravan had a story to tell and Trapero managed to thread them together very well. True, acting could have been a bit better, but I took it as part of the essence of this movie, adding for a natural freshness of the plot. Human relationships and family business are taken to the core of this family during the trip with a good balance of drama and comedy. The movie is flooded with touches of Argentinian customs along the movie that also come as a bonus. Highly recommended movie!

Dreadfully dull

A Customer from Brighton, 10th March, 2008

Dont waste your time, this is dated (in an unfashionable sense), dull, tediously drawn out ... and a waste of time. I tried to give it the benefit of a doubt but had my hand on the fast forward button 98% of the way through!

Not really a comedy

A Customer from OXON, 2nd July, 2010

Certainly not funny in the 'Road Trip' genre which is what I was expecting. Though it was mildly amusing in places it was, unfortunately, boring, slow and tedious. A disappointment.

Argentine road movie

Zamy from , 15th April, 2010

This director’s camper van holidays with his parents provided the inspiration for his modest film about an extended family’s trip by mobile home to a wedding hundred’s of miles north from Buenos Aires. Predictably there are various adventures and fallings out and fallings in to amuse and entertain us along the way. Like most low budget films the production values leave a bit to be desired. The acting is variable but the performance from the 80 year old grandmother who had never acted before is rather good. And this director looks like he may be a name to watch.

Happy Families!

Peter Brown from Hebrides, 13th November, 2009

Strange how the fundamentally boring concept of a family undertaking a very long journey in an elderly motorhome turns out to be quite a good film. The characters get a chance to develop during the film, keeping it interesting and new. A good evening's entertainment. However, don't expect it to encourage your Spanish. Some of the scenes are indistinct naturally (everybody speaking at once), although the Argentine accent is not strong. And don't play it on a conventional TV. On widescreen you see the whole film, but on a standard screen you see only the left half- not satisfactory.
