Lama Norbu comes to Seattle in search of the reincarnation of his dead teacher, Lama Dorje. His search leads him to young Jesse Conrad, Raju, a waif from Kathmandu, and an upper class Indian girl. Together, they journey to Bhutan where the three children must undergo a test to prove which is the true reincarnation. Interspersed with this, is the story of Siddharta, later known as the Buddha. It traces his spiritual journey from ignorance to true enlightenment.

Little Buddha's big impact

Stuart Viewer from Bristol, 21st July, 2006

I can say that I have seen the film twice and enjoyed it both times. The film makes you think and ponder; which is a good thing in this era. 'Little Buddha' runs on three levels: A modern search in the west for the reincarnation of a Lama, [which is interesting]. Next it challenges your own thinking on modern life. Finally it gives information, in a simple and clear way, on the origin of Buddhism and some of its wise teachings. I would say that seeing this film would benefit any thinking person.

Customer Review

A Customer from UK, 23rd June, 2008

I was expecting great things from this film and sadly I was left disappointed. The direction and cinematography is outstanding and the visual aspect of the film is beautiful. Unfortunately the acting was extremely wooden from all involved, apart from maybe the Lama who searches for the reincarnation, and this detracted from my overall enjoyment of the film (hence the 3 stars). The inter-cut story of the life of Buddha and the search for a modern Lama reincarnation was very well done and it flowed very easily from one to the other, enhancing each storyline. This film could've delivered so much more and if you can look past the acting, this film has a great deal to offer. It is still worth a viewing.

Excellent

A Customer from Sussex., 13th December, 2006

I really enjoyed this movie, especially the story of Buddha. It wasn't until the end that I realised that the prince was played by Keanu Reeves. All in all an interesting family film.

A different twist to Budhism

A Customer from Petetborough, England, 14th November, 2006

I enjoyed this film. I found it quite moving. It also held my interest quite well. Monks coming to america in search of their reincarnated fellow man was quite interesting.

Not that good

salmanfan from , 5th April, 2009

It really is a dud, but I just look and Keanu and wonder why he signed to do it. Roll on THe Matrix. If you are into Hinduism and Buddhism you will see where it is coming from, but really not with Keanu as the lead. Not convincing at all. Scenery is great though
