He runs away, where he is taken in an educated by a fierce militant leader (Jackie Shroff) dedicated to achieving Kashmir's independence. After ten years of training, Altaaf sets out on a destructive mission--which is halted when he encounters a boyhood sweetheart who causes him to reconsider his violent ways. Vidhu Vindo Chopra's action epic was named Best Action Film at the 2001 Filmfare Awards, India's equivalent of the Academy Awards.

Very good

Mordechai from UK, 29th November, 2004

The two pakistani reviewers who dissed this film have probably not even bothered to watch it. This is an excellent film which takes great pains to show the senseless suffering of the Muslim Kashmiris, and what makes them turn to the arms of the terrorists. And Pakistan is not even mentioned once in the whole movie.

Hrithik turns in another great performance, Preity Zinta is beautiful as always, and there's a good supporting cast, aside from Jackie Shroff who overacts horribly.
Unusually for a Bollywood DVD, there is an option for an English dubbed soundtrack, and even more surprisingly, the dubed version is not bad at all - in some cases better than the original (cough, cough - Jackie Shroff).
Rent it now!

Just a little silly........but very very good fun!!

Yasodhara Gunavardhana from aberystwyth, 15th October, 2005

while being a hard film about the problems of kashmir and terrorism, 'Mission Kashkir', manages to sneak in some cheesy dance routines and songs. The movie on the whole is amazing and you do get hooked on the characters and their plight. it s always nice to have a little break from all that drama with a nice song and dance!!! ENJOY!!!

Politics aside

A Customer from Leicester, England, 21st October, 2005

Any film set in such a difficult situation isn't going to be able to satisfy everyone. My personal feeling is that this film does an excellent job of telling a complex story. The main protagonists 'good' & 'bad' are both muslim so it avoids the 'bad muslim' / 'hindu patriot' cliche - what it does show well is that violence and killing breed and raise violent killers. Something that is seen the world over throughout history. I thought that although only a small part the terrorist / freedom fighter from the early part of the film was especially well played - he had issued a fatwa against doctors treating policemen this leads to problems and deaths for the policemen but you get a real sense of honesty and commitment from the actor's performance. He has persuaded himself that the ends justify the means. And I guess that that is the abiding message of this film - a warning against that line of logic, that the wrong and the bad things you do are just as wrong if you believe you sre doing them for a good cause because that's what the other side believe too.

Hausfrau

A Customer from Bucks, 6th November, 2005

Well made film revolving around the political situation of Kashmir as experienced by a young boy. The boy is orphaned when security forces try to capture a terrorist. He is then recruited by the same terrorist organisation who utilise his hatred for the forces for their own means. Good songs too.

Mission Boredom

Moby from Newcastle, 29th May, 2006

A very silly film. the chracters are all one-dimensional and only seem to have at most two facial expressions- even when his son has died the police inspector has the same expressiona as when he is doing a love song with his wife. didnt really explain the politics behind the issue, although it tries to balanced by having both sides do bad things. give it a miss and watch the BAttle of ALgiers instead

Better than the average Bollywood film

wikkidsmyle from , 25th February, 2006

Stereotypical Bollywood film: boy meets girl - there's a problem - problem overcome - boy gets girl - soppy ending - lots of smiles - oh, and lots of music, singing and dancing. I wanted to see this film because it has Hrithik Roshan in it and he's a damn fine actor. I already have 'Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai' (which was his breakthrough film and although generic, has a different slant to the love story in it) and I thought this would be much the same. Boy! Was I wrong! Okay, we do get a few songs and dance routines, but don't let that put you off. This is a cracking story of murder and revenge. It's very well directed, with beautiful cinematography and great acting from the leads. Recommended for those who think that all Bollywood films are the same.
