Time Out

The sea-cow gets another milking in the third outing of the outrageously profitable Pirates of the Caribbean...

Too hard going at times

A Customer from West Sussex, UK, 29th November, 2007

First of all I'd like to say what a fabulous showcase for Blu-Ray DVD this movie is, great picture and sound quality for the entire movie with no pixelation or 'noise' on the picture even in very dark scenes. Now for the bad parts... This movie is far too long. At just under 3 hours long you feel that it was a chore to watch rather than entertaining as many scenes in the film didn't need to be there and didn't move the plot along in any way. The first 45 minutes are confusing if you either haven't seen the first two films or are a little hazy in what happened prior to this third part and the film takes a long time to settle down. That being said the good bits are very good and the effects and battle scenes blow you away but even though it's a Disney movie many kids would get bored with the length of this film.

Its the end of the world as we know it..

I was hugely impressed by Pirates 1 but slightly disappointed by 2. I think the success of the first movie surprised everyone involved so rather than come up with better ideas for the sequels it was a case of throw as much money at them as possible, make the effects and cgi better and hope it works. As far as box office takings I guess it did work, as far as an entertaining trilogy it has become very average. The blu-ray disc is awesome looking and its films like this that blu-ray was made for. The clarity of colours and images, night and underwater scenes look amazing and if you have a decent HD TV aswell the whole thing is just brilliant to look at and thats also the problem with this movie. I sat watching very impressed with the picture quality that the story just didn't connect with me at all. In fact, when I had to stop it half way through for some reason, I wasn't bothered about putting it back on...... If you like the 2nd one then I suppose you'd like this, if you were less than impressed then I'd avoid this.

Incoherent mess

A Customer from Reading, 7th December, 2007

The Pirates franchise has ended on a very dissapointing note. The wit and zest of the first film has been lost and what is lefty is a ponderous, bloated and incoherent movie. The characters felt empty with no emotional narrative, the actually become dislikeable by the end of the film. The only upside is Keith Richards performance although he is only on screen for 2 minutes!

Too long

A Customer from Brecon, Wales, 3rd February, 2010

Great effects but too long and dull in places. Lost the magic of the first two - not enough Depp!

as with a lot of trilogy's the first is the best and in my opinion a lot better than both the 2nd and 3rd.
