Perhaps the most influential and successful independent film ever made, Halloween is the movie that put director John Carpenter on the map as a viable filmmaker. An exercise in simple, pure horror, Halloween takes us into the world of a mad killer, Michael Myers, who at a very young age stabbed his older sister to death. Locked away for many years in a mental hospital Michael escapes one night and returns to his home to continue his killing spree. Jamie Lee Curtis, in her first role, plays the resourceful babysitter who is chased by the killer on Halloween night. Produced for very little money and a tight shooting schedule, Halloween was a stunning success when it was released. Written by John Carpenter and his longtime producer Debra Hill, the film set both their careers on fire, with both of them working together many times over the next 25 years. The film also made a star out of Jamie Lee Curtis and turned the slasher movie into a viable, successful genre.

Words I thought that I would never, never say about this film. Right, lets start with the good. The film in high definition now shows detail you have never seem before, however, it does look a little soft compared to a more recently released films. Here comes the but, and what a but it is. What have they done to the colour balance??? The night time scenes, which make up about 3/4 of the film have been royal mucked up. Rather than the expected blue/orange everything has been 'corrected', in someone's view, to whites, making the whole thing look washed out. What is even worse is the documentary, has all the night time scenes with the correct colour balance, which makes the film look even worse. For a new viewer, it may look great. However, for a life long fan of the film it just does not look right and away from the intent that was there when made. Avoid, avoid, avoid!!!!!! PS Since this is released from Anchor Bay/ Starz, who have the reputation of 'double dipping' with their releases, expect to see a re-released & improved version in the future!!!

Halloween - Blu-ray version

A Customer from Wakefield, 9th March, 2009

It's such nostallgic pleasure watching classic movies that take one back down the years to the thrill of first seeing them at the cinema - and this is one of them. BLU-RAY has greatly enhanced it, and although it doesn't match up technically to modern horror films, it nevertheless delivers on creeps and shocks equally well.

One of the best

It's a real testament to the skills behind the camera that this now over-familiar, much imitated seminal psycho killer on the loose movie still manages to scare the Bejesus out of you. But that's why 'Halloween' is the granddaddy of these kind of movies - spare, lean, intense, surprisingly subtle and remarkably atmospheric. Carpenter takes his time setting the scene so when the night falls, we're in for one of the most frightening film experiences you could possibly imagine. The film has never looked better on Blu-ray - beautifully crisp - and the 5.1 surround sound mix is stunning.

Halloween at it's Best...

Mansfieldguy from from Mansfield, 31st August, 2008

Halloween on Blu-Ray I only have one word to describe this film… Fantastic! I can’t remember how many times I have watched this film as it is one of my all-time favourites – The picture quality is amazing and is accompanied by an excellent Dolby 5.1 Digital Sound. Don’t forget to watch the extra 1 hour documentary about the making of film, it’s packed with interesting facts that any fan will find really cool!
