The crimes aren't what make this mystery-driven series so much fun. Instead, it's the chemistry between leads James Roday (DUKES OF HAZZARD) and Dule Hill (THE WEST WING) that has PSYCH following in the footsteps of series such as MONK and MAGNUM, P.I. With a family of cops, Shawn Spencer (Roday) has honed his observational skills to an impressive degree. But rather than join the police force and make his father (Corbin Bernsen, L.A. LAW) proud, Shawn bounces from job to job, working as everything from a foot model to a Wienermobile driver. But he can't keep his powers of deduction hidden, and he calls the police with tips for their cases. When his knowledge arouses suspicion, Shawn does the logical thing: tells everyone he's a psychic and opens a psychic detective agency. Aided by his best friend and polar opposite, Gus (Hill), Shawn solves cases with the Santa Barbara Police Department. The detective duo matches wits with the doubtful police, hardened criminals, and one another with hilarious results.

A super cast who deliver a script that consists of humour and crime solving. If you enjoyed moonlighting then you will love this. If you are too young for moonlighting then you should watch this to see what comedy drama really is.

Psyched by Psych

A Customer from London, 9th February, 2009

'Psych' is a refreshing new take on the somewhat weary police/private detective trope. Casting aside the procedural (and graphic) weight of CSI while remaining observant and logical, the show's comedic nature re-invents and subverts the utter sobriety of other popular shows. The main character - Shaun Spencer - manages to be highly irritating on a frequent basis, but the presence of his best friend (and by far the best character on the show) - Burton 'Gus' Guster - makes the show thoroughly watchable. Other characters of note are Detective Lassiter (aka 'Lassie'), and Shaun's father who also provide a calmer antidote to Shaun's somewhat over the top behaviour. (Good news, he seems to calm down a little in season 2). Some episodes are forgetable, but the one at the convention, and the one at the Irish pub speed dating event should have you laughing your head off. If you are a fan of recent Vancouver filmed sci-fi shows, you might just want to watch so you can spot the many, many familiar faces, and count to many, many sci-fi or geek references. Still, the writing is good if not perfect, the jokes are a plenty, and you might find yourself solving some of the cases along with our heroes. I highly recommend giving this show a try - just don't take it too seriously.

Easy watching and really enjoyed it, dont remember it being on the telly. The main character is quite funny, storylines are basic, but its good easy watching.
