I would punch this director in the face if I met him.

Reviewface from from Milton Keynes, 25th February, 2008

How messed up is it to make a film about the death of such a legend, and create emphasis on his death not life, And to make the gut who kiled him a well known name which is what he wanted when he should just be forgotten like the fool he is. my rating -1000...

Not bad

A Customer from London, 11th April, 2008

Although rather macabre, this portrayal of Mark Chapman seems to follow his life quite accurately and the locations are all real. The film never really gets to the answer of why he killed Lennon and the murder remains a brutal and pointless act by a deluded and confused man. If you know nothing about this, then it is worth a watch but people familiar with the event will find nothing new here. Fame is what Chapman wanted and making films like this only in the end satisfy him.

recreation of murder good, that's it though

robotjohn from , 14th June, 2009

the actual recreation of the murder is good and the acting was ok but the rest is quite dull, and i knew it was going to be low budget but there's alot of timeline errors that jars your experience of being in the period , cars money etc that destroyed it for me. i feel more anger towards chapman after watching it because , although he was ill, he didn't really have a good reason to kill him , and i was hoping to find that in this film but didn't. just him saying 'he's a phoney' and playing with a gun in a hotel room. i liked the old news reports , the whole thing would have been better as a documentary i think. the issue of glamorising murderers is another thing, but i think it's an odd film as many beatles fans probably won't want to watch it because of that issue but i can't imagine anyone thinking chapman is 'cool'

The Killing Of John Lennon

A Customer from High Wycombe, 10th April, 2009

This is undeniably a well researched and well made film, with a truly chilling central performance. It is not however, an easy film to watch. For the majority of the film you are watching someone who seems perfectly sane and rational and has not done anything wrong, but of course we know that is all going to change. It does not sympathise with Chapman, simply shows his thought process and actions leading up to his horrific crime. Does it explain why? It delves into Chapmans obsession with Catcher in the rye and how he saw Lennon as a fake (Imagine no posessions Lennon wrote, all the while surrounding himself in material things). The phony must die says the catcher in the rye but of course there was no obvious motive and any sane person would never understand why Chapman shot Lennon. Worth seeing, but beware, this is hard to stomach.
