Not really worth the effort

Paul Howell from West Yorkshire, England, 2nd January, 2008

My wife and I actually went to see 'The Golden Compass', but could not get in, so watched this instead. Wish we had not bothered. Christian did act it well, and looked totally different to any other role he has played before, but to be honest the storyline was quite weak, and drawn out. Some very wierd scenes, and not even a good twist at the end, more like a cop out. Don't want to give too much away, but overall a very poor film.

Watch this film!

Kevin Davis from Twickenham, England, 10th April, 2008

I saw this on the plane and absolutely loved it. It's hard to recognize Christian Slater in this role, but he played it brilliantly. If you like something different and offbeat you will enjoy this. One of his best.

Slater makes it

ktdude from Newcastle upon tyne, UK, 18th August, 2008

Three and a half stars - rounded up because I love Christian Slater as an actor, and he really makes this film worth watching. He plays unhinged well, but I've never seen him play this kind of role before, the role of the bullied victim, and it was a pleasant surprise. He looked and acted completely differently to what I am used to from him. Excellent work. The storyline itself is an interesting one. It's a bit different, quirky and well conceived, however it might have benefitted from a couple more twists and turns along the way. I could see where it was going - the plotline was straightforward allowing the quirkiness to come out through the direction and characterisation, and there were definitely some nice touches - the fish being one of my favourite parts about the film. However in this kind of film I feel you should be completely in the dark as to how the ending will turn out, and something about this ending just didn't quite do it for me.

Still Thinking About It!

Mosco from from London, 18th August, 2008

I'm still thinking about this film the day after watching it. I like that fact. I'm still not sure what was really going on but it was captivating viewing. Christian Slater plays the part really well. Not much more I can say really except it doesn't wrap itself up in a neat and tidy movie package, it's quite a deep movie and they don't come along too often. I would have said 3 stars but the more I think about the film, the more I'm moving towards 4 stars.
