Not really worth the effort

Paul Howell from West Yorkshire, England, 2nd January, 2008

My wife and I actually went to see 'The Golden Compass', but could not get in, so watched this instead. Wish we had not bothered. Christian did act it well, and looked totally different to any other role he has played before, but to be honest the storyline was quite weak, and drawn out. Some very wierd scenes, and not even a good twist at the end, more like a cop out. Don't want to give too much away, but overall a very poor film.

Watch this film!

Kevin Davis from Twickenham, England, 10th April, 2008

I saw this on the plane and absolutely loved it. It's hard to recognize Christian Slater in this role, but he played it brilliantly. If you like something different and offbeat you will enjoy this. One of his best.

Good but sometimes confusing

rubbishreview from , 5th August, 2008

This film was a an unexpected psycho babble type film which follows a man bent on killing a few office colleagues, only to be pipped to the post by another similarly thinking man. The other mans shooting results in one of his 'idols' being shot and he spends the rest of the film looking after her. Don't think this is the spoiler because it gets stranger - which i won't go into:-) I wasn't a big fan of this film but that doesn't make me a critic because my better half enjoyed it and particularly enjoyed the ending and i did like some parts of the film which make you think really hard about you think you work with may have similar traits to those he doesn't like. Its' a thinking film which requires a sharp eye and some keen attention to enjoy otherwise not a bad film.

strange film

soz from , 16th June, 2009

I cant really say much about it, but acting and dialogue were both captivating but story didn't really hold my attention and i did become a bit bored with it. It was a strange story to see it unfold about a man who was going to kill himself and then cant but someone else does instead and he is hailed a hero and what happens next is whether his life then turns around or gets worse and really not much else.

An interesting mess

danieljparsons from , 20th May, 2009

Christian Slater leaves behind most of his usual eccentricities and eyebrow raising to give a pretty good, quite restrained 'uglified' performance in this bizarre mishmash of Falling Down and Clockwatchers. An uncertain tone that leers uncomfortably between heartfelt drama, surrealism and black humor prevents He Was A Quiet Man from being entirely successful. In addition, the contrivance which sets the plot in motion is difficult to get past and the visual effects are so overblown that suspension of disbelief is a bit out of the question. It is though, a film with some surprisingly moving and effective moments. Best of all is a pretty damn stunning performance from a cast against type Elisa Cuthbert, leaving her usual vanity behind and giving her all. Previously having only seen her work as the vacuous Kim Bauer in 24 and in various plays on that character in redundant films, I was very impressed. She clearly has potential to be a great actor if she chooses her projects with care.

I only watched 5 minutes of this film and just had to turn it off. Chritian slaters acting was awful and embarrassing and the film just had a very cheesy cheap feel to it Dont bother!!!!
