Worthy of a viewing.

joyce from , 9th August, 2008

This was originally serialised and was sent out over sveral weeks so the pacing may not seem quite right for a full length film. It was ahead of its time in 1990 showing powerful scenes of lesbian intimacy as it does. I think it captures the longing, the confusion, the guilt and the desperation that Vita felt so very well. The acting is superb and it is well worth a look.

Not good

A Customer from Barmouth, 4th October, 2008

This film would be more likely to suit gay women. I'm afraid I found it boring and disappointing.

Good but slow

Geoffers from from Shrewsbury, 29th July, 2008

Of its time 80s period drama. Well acted by all concerned but a little slow in places.

Pretty to look at but turgidly slow

rtb from , 21st April, 2010

How it was thought that it would be possible to string this out over almost four hours is beyond me. There's lots of soft focus lesbian kissing and writhing, pretty costumes and not a lot else other than interminable pauses in stilted conversations. It was a real drag getting through to the end and I think I dozed off at one point. When I woke up, I asked Him Indoors whether I had missed anything. 'Not really' came the reply.

so-so

A Customer from Newbold on Stour, 15th August, 2009

not bad-very interesting and inspiring from a Bohemian point of view but very much about their sex life and not about all the wonderful work they did...four episodes saying...'they're lesbians, they're lesbians!! shock horror..! they're lesbians, AND they're married!!....' etc etc...like hitting your head on a brick wall every other scene. great scenes of Sissinghurst etc...but a bit hammy....

Portrait of a Marriage

crumblie from , 17th May, 2009

This film begins in the year 1940 with a mysterious phone call! Watching it one feels as though you have stumbled in on a very private family with lots of secrets! Typical upper class stuff! Very moving to watch and intensley believable, Janet Mc Teer is amazing as Vita. It has been made with great attention to detail associated with the period roughly 1914 to 1940!
